update

PALMYRA TWP. — A serious crash involving a school bus and a passenger vehicle happened Thursday morning in Palmyra Township.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded around 7 a.m. to the intersection of U-S 223 and Grosvenor Highway, just west of Blissfield.

Investigators say a Kia Soul traveling westbound on U-S 223 crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a school bus heading eastbound.

The driver of the Kia, a 29-year-old Adrian man, suffered multiple broken bones and had to be extricated from the vehicle before being transported to the University of Toledo Hospital for treatment.

The bus driver, a 63-year-old woman from Blissfield, and a bus aide, a 45-year-old woman from Adrian, both sustained minor injuries and were taken to Hickman Hospital.

Officials say several children were on the bus at the time of the crash, but none of them were injured.

Authorities say alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Blissfield Police Department, Palmyra Township Fire Department, and the Lenawee County Accident Investigation Team.
