SOMERSET TWP.., MI – Officials are working to identify a person killed in a crash Wednesday evening in Hillsdale County.

According to a release from the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office, a 2018 Buick Encore was driving west around 8 p.m. Wednesday on East Chicago Road near Baker Road in Somerset Township when it left the roadway. The car then crashed into a tree and caught fire.

Somerset Township firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. An unidentified person was found inside the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office is currently working with the Lenawee-Hillsdale County Medical Examiner’s
Office to identify the person.

MLive.com reports that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Somerset Township Fire Department, Somerset Township Emergency Medical Services and the Michigan State Police.
