ANN ARBOR — Hundreds of nurses and supporters gathered over the weekend at the University of Michigan hospital campus in Ann Arbor for an informational picket.
The event was tied to ongoing contract negotiations between Michigan Medicine and the University of Michigan Professional Nurse Council.
Nurses say proposed staffing changes could increase patient loads and impact patient care, nurse retention, and workplace protections. Union leaders also filed unfair labor practice charges, alleging labor law violations involving advanced practice nurses and the installation of A-I workplace monitoring sensors without bargaining.
Negotiations began in October, and the contract covering more than 75-hundred nurses expired at the end of March.
University officials say they remain committed to productive negotiations and reaching a new agreement.
