ADRIAN — Lenawee County commissioners are raising concerns about gaps in the county’s tornado siren system following recent severe weather events.

During the May Criminal Justice Committee meeting, Emergency Management officials confirmed the City of Adrian has no tornado sirens, while sirens in Blissfield and Raisin Township are currently not operating.

Officials say achieving full countywide siren coverage would require more than 200 additional sirens at an estimated cost of about $30,000 each. Commissioners also discussed aging infrastructure, with some sirens still operating on outdated VHF technology.

Emergency Management says about 30,000 residents are currently signed up for the county’s RAVE emergency alert system, which officials say is becoming increasingly important for severe weather notifications.
