ADRIAN — Lenawee County officials say the county’s developing mobile crisis response unit has already been used several times as local law enforcement continues expanding its response to mental health emergencies.

Sheriff Troy Bevier addressed the initiative during May’s Criminal Justice Committee session, citing Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard’s mental health response model; a program that has garnered national acclaim.

Bevier said Lenawee County recently launched its own mobile response partnership with Community Mental Health and local police agencies.

The sheriff said the unit is designed to connect people in crisis with mental health resources instead of relying solely on traditional law enforcement responses. County officials also discussed the importance of expanding public awareness surrounding mental health crisis services.
