Gregory David DuMars – Adrian

Gregory David DuMars, age 78, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and under the care of Hospice of Lenawee.
Greg was born on July 13, 1947, in McKeesport, PA, the oldest child of Glen Merle and Florence Ann (Gregory) DuMars . He attended Mt. Lebanon High School in Pennsylvania, graduating in 1965; and continued his education at Thiel College in Greenville, PA earning a BA in psychology with a minor in business. Greg served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976.
March 21, 1970, was the beginning of a great adventure for Greg and Ardafay Deborah Frick, his high school sweetheart, as they were united in marriage at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, PA. They made an excellent team over the next 56 years as they supported one another in reaching their goals and embracing their dreams. Greg and Debbie were blessed with 3 daughters and later became doting grandparents to 6 wonderful grandchildren. He and Debbie never missed an opportunity to attend one of their sporting or school events.
Greg’s career had him working in Human Resources at General Motors/Delphi for 33 years, retiring in 2002. Greg was known for his positive attitude toward life, with his priorities being family, God, work and community. Wanting to make a difference in his community, Greg chose to get involved. He was a past board member of Good Will, United Way, YMCA, Lenawee Country Club, Red Cross and Adrian Public Schools. He was a member of Rotary International and the Adrian Rotary Noon Club. Greg was an elder at Adrian First Presbyterian Church and active on the Disaster Relief team for Bogalusa, Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. He gained his lifelong appreciation for scouting when he achieved Eagle Scout and later, Greg was awarded the Silver Beaver for his commitment to scouting as an adult. Greg served as an Adrian City Commissioner for 6 ½ years; before being elected as the Mayor of Adrian in 2011. Greg liked staying physically active, golfing on several leagues with his most recent being the “Geezers” league. He ran three Detroit marathons and completed several triathlons. Greg was ahead of the times when he installed a home pickleball court in 1987. He was a competitive player for many years and past president of the Lenawee Pickleball Club.
In addition to his wife, Debbie, Greg will be missed by their daughters, Amy L. DuMars of Adrian, Karen A. (Steven) Dunham of Tecumseh and Michelle L. (Erik) Koppin of Commerce, MI; grandchildren, Alexa DuMars, Jonathan DuMars, Luke Dunham, Rhys Dunham, Isaac Koppin and Evelyn Koppin. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna DuMars.
Memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 11 AM to 2 PM, and on Friday from 10 to 11 AM at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian. Greg’s memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11 AM at the funeral home with Dr. Scott Elliott officiating.
