Over 600 Pounds of Solids, Liquids, Inhalers Collected from Drug Take Back Event

Adrian, MI – The numbers are in from the recent Drug Take Back event that took place at ProMedica Hickman Hospital.

The National Drug Take Back Day provides an opportunity for the community to properly dispose of their unused medications.

In Lenawee County, it has been reported that 47% of people who misuse opioids obtained them from family or friends.

ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital, together with community partners, Lenawee Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, Lenawee County Sheriff Department, 103.9 WLEN, and Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority removed over 13 hundred pounds of unused medication.

  • Over 200 people participated in the event.
  • 603 pounds, between solids, liquids, and inhalers, were collected.
  • In total, from the drug take back days in both October and April, around 1,360 pounds were surrendered.
  • There were also eleven 38-gallon containers filled with sharps collected.
