Monroe, MI – The United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties is hosting its annual Day of Action on Friday, September 15th from 9 am – 4 pm and Saturday, September 16th from 9 am – 1 pm. This event is in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity’s Rock the Block event. The United Way will provide a light continental breakfast to kick-off the day’s events at 9:00 AM at the Shea’Nanigans Restaurant at 521 S Meridian Rd, Hudson.

The Day of Action is a local community service project day that has its roots in a nation-wide, United Way Day of Action (aka DAY of CARING) program. Since 2010, the Lenawee community has been a part of this nationwide effort and call to action, helping projects local agencies cannot do on their own. Local projects are scheduled with Habitat for Humanity of Lenawee County’s Rock the Block event in Hudson. Over 25 volunteers are joining the effort to make a difference in the Hudson area. Volunteers from area businesses will join the over 40 volunteers already a part of the Rock the Block neighborhood revitalization activities Thursday – Saturday.

For over 13 years, the local United Way has been a part of this national effort to change lives and communities. The United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties Executive Director, Laura Schultz Pipis, states, “The Day of Action is an invitation for people and organizations to Live United. It is a day that we ask you to help us put our mission into action by volunteering to improve the building blocks for a good quality of life—education, financial stability and health”. Each year over 300 communities and thousands of volunteers gather together in this country to meet these social needs and challenges with hands on sweat equity.
