Tecumseh, MI – A juvenile was taken into custody, and charges are pending, after a tip was received indicating a potential threat to the Winter Formal Dance on Saturday at Tecumseh High School.
In a statement released Monday by the Tecumseh School District, they said that the Michigan State Police and Tecumseh Police Department received the tip through the OK2SAY app. The TPD immediately notified TPS administration and a joint investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, a suspect was identified and taken into custody. Due to the nature of the threat and timing of the investigation, the decision was made to postpone the Winter Formal. TPS said that the safety of their students, staff, and community is always their top priority… and while this was a difficult decision to make, it was made with that in mind.
Charges are pending against the juvenile, but as the investigation is ongoing, TPS said in the release that they will not be releasing the specifics at this time.
They want to reassure the students and community that this situation is being taken very seriously and was very specific to the Winter Formal. TPD and TPS have no information indicating any danger to students, staff, or the schools at this time.
If you know any additional information about the event, or if you are aware of any other potential threat, contact Tecumseh Public Schools and/or the Tecumseh Police Department immediately. You can also report anonymously through OK2SAY.
