Tecumseh Water Customers Asked to Reduce Irrigation Use

Tecumseh, MI – The City of Tecumseh is asking their water customers to voluntarily reduce the amount of water they are using for irrigation because of high water demand during this stretch of extreme heat and dry conditions.

This increased demand…which has nearly doubled the City’s average daily water usage… has resulted in rusty water. An increased amount and flow has stirred up iron that has previously settled out of the water in the pipes.

City Utility crews are actively pursuing remedies such as flushing hydrants in areas of concern. It is important to note that this is a temporary situation and the iron in the water is not a health concern.

While the City’s system is designed to operate at a higher capacity for short periods of time, extended high demand can lead to some operational concerns. If you have any questions, contact the City of Tecumseh Utilities Superintendent.
