To provide opportunities to share art and music during the COVID-19 shutdown, the Croswell Opera House is inviting community members to join a Facebook group called “The Great Big Long-Distance Croswell Show.”

The group was started on March 19 and has since grown to about 700 members. Dozens of videos have been posted by people performing their favorite tunes from their own homes.

“Because we can’t do shows at the Croswell right now, we wanted to provide another way for people in our community to enjoy music together,” said Erik Gable, the Croswell’s director of marketing and audience development. “A lot of people are singing, plus we’ve heard pianos, guitars, ukuleles, violins, even the accordion. It’s a way for people to create music and share it with an audience even while they’re stuck at home.”

Videos have been posted by Croswell community members all over the country and even internationally.

“Art has a way of bringing people together, and this has been a great way for people to share their creativity and cheer each other on,” Gable said.

In addition to musical performances, local magician Stuart MacDonald has shared several magic videos in the group.

Anyone is welcome to join the group and either post their own performances or enjoy the videos shared by others.

The group can be found by searching Facebook for “The Great Big Long-Distance Croswell Show” or by going to fb.com/groups/croswellshow.
