Tecumseh Community Gathers at Vigil Honoring and Remembering AJ Marry

A vigil was held at Tecumseh High School to reflect on the loss of a father, coach, husband, father-figure, and friend… AJ Marry.

Marry was a teacher and coach at Tecumseh for the past 5 years. He taught math, coached wrestling and golf. As a coach, he won 5 District Championships, 3 Regional Championships and 3 State Finals appearances as a wrestling coach. His golf teams went to the State Championship Meet last year, and is currently in first place in the SEC, and is on their way to Regionals later this month.

Marry died Sunday, May 19th in a pedestrian/vehicle accident.

AJ was a 2001 graduate of Hudson High School, where he ran track and was once named county hurdle champion. He furthered his education at Siena Heights University, where he also ran track, before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in math and business from Adrian College. While at AC, he played football and was co-captain of the team.

AJ was working towards a Master’s Degree at Eastern Michigan University. Prior to his tenure at Tecumseh, he had been employed as a math teacher at Adrian Public Schools. He also coached football and wrestling for Adrian High School.

He married Vanessa Leigh Vitale on August 25, 2012 in Hudson; and in June of 2015, Vanessa gave birth to their son Colton.

Several hundred people were in attendance at the vigil for AJ Marry on Tuesday night.

A Mass of Resurrection for the soul of AJ Marry will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, at 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Private burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Hudson, and a fellowship luncheon will be shared at Hudson High School.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of AJ are suggested to the Hudson or Tecumseh Wrestling Club.
