Tyler Barnes scored 1:33 into double overtime as the Walleye defeated the Fuel 4-3 on Friday night in Toledo and won Game 1 of the series. Christian Hilbrich scored twice and Tyler Barnes picked up three points, while Pat Nagle stopped 43 of 46 shots.

Christian Hilbrich scored twice and Tyler Barnes picked up three assists as the Walleye defeated the Fuel 4-3 on Sunday evening as well. The contest was also in Toledo. Pat Nagle stopped 29 of 32 shots and is 2-0-0 in the playoffs. Toledo leads the best-of-seven series two games to none.

Bonis set up Tyler Barnes, who found the back of the net 1:33 into double overtime on Friday night to give the Walleye the 4-3 win. Kyle Bonis led Toledo against Indy in the regular season with 11 points (4G, 7A). Friday’s jersey raffle for the Humboldt Broncos raised $6,040 and with a contribution from Walleye Wishing Well, they donated $10,000 to the Broncos. Toledo is now 23-2-1 all-time vs. Indy.

Toledo is now 2-0-0 in the postseason and plays on Wednesday and Thursday night in Indy with a 7:05 p.m. puck drop both nights.

Nagle stopped 29 of 32 shots on Sunday and is now 2-0-0 in the playoffs after getting the nod in both contests. Tyler Barnes leads the Walleye with six points vs. the Fuel this postseason. Christian Hilbrich leads the Walleye with four goals against the Fuel this postseason. The Walleye have an all-time home playoff record of 19-13.

Former Adrian College Men’s NCAA Ice Hockey Captain, Matthew Thompson saw quite a few minutes over the weekend. He is currently on a professional ATO. His stats are as follows:

This season Thompson was second in team scoring with 34 points (16g, 18a) in 30 games while helping the Bulldogs reach the NCAA quarterfinals. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward was named the 2017-18 Northern Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHA) Player of the Year, earning a spot on the NCHA All-Conference Team as well. Serving as captain for the last two seasons, Thompson finished his Adrian tenure at over a point-per-game pace, logging 61 goals, 67 assists and a plus-69 rating in 105 total NCAA games.

A native of Bolton, Ontario, Thompson spent two seasons in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) prior to his collegiate career, tallying 102 points (36g, 66a) in 98 games split between the Trenton Golden Hawks and the Orangeville Flyers.
