
Ruby Gray Emerson, age 85, of Blissfield, died Saturday evening, December 14, 2024, at her home, in the presence of her family while under the compassionate care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born May 13, 1939, in Detroit, AL to Verdo and Jessma (Rye) Sanderson.
On July 2, 1950, she married Chester F. Emerson in Detroit, AL. Together they raised three children and enjoyed nearly 59 years of memories before his passing on May 25, 2009. Ruby had been employed by Adrian Public Schools for 25 years as a cafeteria aide at the former Drager Middle School. A devoted Christian, Ruby worshipped as a member of the Blissfield Baptist Church. Always keeping busy, she loved to get out of the house, usually for shopping, socializing, or in Ruby’s words, just “fooling around”.
Ruby is survived by a son, Charles “Chuck” (Heidi) Emerson of Blissfield; a daughter, Janine (Doug) Walters of Monroe; a sister, Muriel “Dean” Smith of Fayetteville, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Ruth Sanderson of Fayette, OH; four grandchildren Amanda (Jr) Iffland, Brad Emerson, Nathan Fuller, and MacKenzie Lippens; and four great-grandchildren, Blake and Garrett Iffland, and Samantha and Lane Smith-Emerson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Robin Lippens; brother, Don Sanderson; a brother in infancy; sister, Josephine (Robert) Stevens; and brother-in-law, Marine Smith.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. An additional visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 18, from 10:00 a.m. until a funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Tom Frantz officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Blissfield.
