Shirley Ann Short passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Trinity Health – St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born on September 28, 1936, the daughter of the late William Kline and Leona Hautebergue. Shirley was married to William Edwin Short, and they enjoyed raising their family together before his passing in 2006.
Shirley was a good mother and provider who labored for years as a factory worker. She also loved spending time as a volunteer grandmother at the Clinton Elementary Schools as well as a volunteer at the Clinton Youth Center. In addition to all of this, she enjoyed spending time working in her yard, canning fruits and vegetables, serving as a foster mother, and especially loving and taking care of animals.
Shirley is survived by her seven children, Shirley Lucas, of Ypsilanti, John (Donna) Little, of Milan, MI, Mary (Kerry) Miller, of Britton, Wanda (Eddie) Short of Clinton, MI, William (Katie) Short, of Brooklyn, MI, Robert (Mary) Short of Edcouch, Texas, Etta Jean Short, of Findlay, OH, and Irene baker of Romulus and a former son-in-law, Tom Lucas, of Westland, MI; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two brother, three sisters, and a son-in -law, Allen McCarley.
A memorial service for Shirley will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held at 3:00pm – 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the funeral home on Monday, December 2, 2024. Memorial contributions in honor of Shirley may be made to any fostering or wildlife association.
