Gil was born August 25, 1942 in Roanoke, Virginia, the only child of Giles Houghton and
Mary Ellen (Robinson) Kidd. Gil was born an Army child and lived in multiple places including Europe, the Philippines, and many U.S. Army locations. He attended the University of Florida and Virginia Tech.
On June 18, 1983, he married the love of his life, Susan Peshke in Perrysburg, Ohio, and they have been blessed with over 41 years together.
During his career Gil was employed by several drug store companies in various states in the purchasing department. He also worked at English Gardens Centers and Nurseries in greater Detroit until his retirement in 2013.
Faith was an important part of Gil’s life and over the years he was a member of the Birmingham First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, MI, and Huron River Methodist Church in Dexter MI. Most recently Gil was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, NC.
Gil was known for his abundant kindness, giving nature and love of family. He embraced his role in his large family, especially with hosting holidays and special events. He looked forward to family tailgates and all the laughs that came with it. Gil had many skills and liked the challenge of taking on home improvement projects at his home or often a project for a family member. He was accomplished and very competent with gardening, landscaping and cooking. Gil particularly enjoyed spending time on the water and owned several sailboats. This love of water was the launching pad for many cruises abroad. Gil was passionate about traveling and relished the trips he planned for Susan and himself.
Time spent with family brought Gil immeasurable joy, and he appreciated and valued all the siblings and their spouses that he gained through Susan. He cherished and adored his 11 nieces and nephews and was extremely proud of their accomplishments.
In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by sisters-in-law, Jan Peshke and Sally Feldkamp; brothers-in-law, David (Kathy) Peshke, Dan (Nancy) Peshke and Robert (Maureen Rose) Peshke. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews and all their spouses; 20 great nieces and nephews; and his special dog family members, Ashley, Kelly, Bennie and Katie.
Gil was preceded in death by his mother Mary Ellen Kidd; father and stepmother, Giles and Birgit Kidd; and daughter, Meridyth Kidd.
All services are private and have been entrusted to Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian.
