George Holland Sutherland, age 86, passed away at home on September 14, 2024. He was born September 18, 1937, in Detroit, MI, to the late Charles F. and Jean (Sain) Sutherland. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joanne (Scroggins) Sutherland. They were married at Dearborn Presbyterian church by Dr. Weir on September 29, 1956.
George was a Tool and Die maker at The Ford Motor Company Rouge Plant for 40 years. He enjoyed golfing, sailing, and cruising. His hobbies were woodworking, remodeling, and building. His favorite pastime was riding around the neighborhood in his golf cart with his Golden Retriever, Chloe, and talking. He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, Joanne, George leaves behind three children; Mark (Carol) Sutherland of MI, Karen (Michael) Stoychoff of AZ, and Linda (James) Levine of WI. He had seven grandchildren; Ashley Wending of AZ, Chad Sutherland of NJ, Jeremy Stoychoff of CO, Joshua Levine of FL, Alex Levine of WI, Emma Sutherland of IL, and Claire Sutherland of MI. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren; Landon, Mason, Anna, Nora, Connor, and Briar.
Visitation for George will be from 5pm – 8pm on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A private memorial service will be held by the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lenawee Humane Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
