
Betty May Crup, age 91, of Hudson, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Country Living in Hillsdale. She was born in Jackson, MI, on October 29th, 1932, the daughter of Lester William and Helen Teresa (Sprangel) Dochstader. Betty graduated from Addison High School in 1951. She married Richard (Dick) Crup on February 17, 1967, in Hudson, he preceded her in death on December 31, 2023.
Betty was a hard worker, she was a telephone operator in Jackson, worked in a restaurant, she candled eggs for the Kroger Egg Exchange, for Hill Piston in Hillsdale. She had her own beauty shop in Hudson, named the Corner Shop, and She and Dick were owners of Highland Beach Inn at Manitou Beach for 23 years, then named Sassy’s.
Betty loved crossword puzzles, as well as racing, gardening, reading, painting, and working; she was also a great cook.
Betty is survived by her sister, Cecilia (John) Mandt; brother, Ray (Sheila) Dochstader; sister-in-laws, Judy Crup and Mary Ann Dochstader; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and beloved dog, Squirt.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Tom Dochstader and Lester William Dochstader and a sister, Norma Haberer.
A Celebration of Life for Betty will be held at a later date, with a graveside service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Hillsdale County, Lenawee Humane Society, Hillsdale Humane Society, and the Hudson Carnegie District Library.
