Joyce Kay Elliott, age 85, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at her home with her family at her side. She was born June 7, 1939, in Hazard, Kentucky, the daughter of Pryce and Grace (Stanifer) Hoskins. On June 5, 1965 she married Gordon Charles Elliott in Ypsilanti, MI, and they enjoyed over fifty-nine years together. He survives. After Joyce graduated high school, she attended cosmetology school and then worked as a hairdresser for over thirty years in a salon in downtown Ypsilanti.
Joyce was a faithful member of Tecumseh Church: A Freewill Baptist Gathering Place. She had a love for many different things in life, including gardening and raising flowers, cats, cooking, and a special love for her granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, Joyce is survived by; her daughter, Michelle (Don) Tackett of Tecumseh, MI; sister, Susan Scheerer of Scottsdale, AZ; two grandchildren, Kaitlin (Eric) Wise-Roberson of Adrian, MI, and Kristin (Jon Nelson) Coffey of Arlington, VA; one great grandchild, Finley Roberson; and three bonus grandchildren, Marissa Tackett, Hunter Tackett, and Justin Lord, all of Milan MI.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Doris Billings; brother, Roger Hoskins; special sister, Mary Blevins, and a special niece, Ardith Billings-Dubuc.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced soon. Memorial contributions may be made to Elara Caring or to the Lenawee Humane Society
