
KENNETH C. OTTINGER, age 82 years of Hudson, formerly of Tecumseh and Detroit, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Hillsdale Hospital in Hillsdale. He was born on October 16, 1941, in Detroit, the son of Kenneth O. and Nettie (Vlad) Ottinger. Ken graduated from Southeastern High School in 1960.
He went to work at General Motors right out of high school. Ken served in the United States Navy from January of 1961 till January of 1963. He returned to GM at the Willow Run Plant for 30 years retiring in 1989. Ken married the love of his life, Veronica Gazdik on August 10, 1963, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Detroit. They enjoyed 61 years together having just celebrated their anniversary. Ken and Veronica moved to the Hudson Area in 1994, buying a home on the lake, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was very active in the community, joining Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 3221 and the Hudson American Legion Hannan-Colvin Post #180. He was always willing to give a helping hand. Ken enjoyed bowling and dancing, Ken and Veronica were often the last ones to leave the dance floor at many functions.
Surviving Ken, besides his wife, Veronica are their three children, Kenneth Ottinger, Gregory Ottinger and Lisa Ottinger, 8 grandchildren, Katelynn, Jacob, Lucas, Wyatt, Nevaeh, Ashley, Lauren and Christopher, 3 great grandchildren, Zackary, Bailey and Vada, nephew, Michael and niece, Michelle. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce (Mike) Kozub.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Father Todd Koenigsknecht officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Hudson with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Hannan-Colvin Post #180 of Hudson. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 4-7 P.M. at the Brown-VanHemert Funeral Home in Hudson and for an hour at the church prior to the service. Knights of Columbus 4th Degree will have a Chalice presentation at 6:50 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Lenawee Humane Society.
