
Irwin “Lavon” Johnston, age 89, of Adrian, died Thursday, August 8, 2024, while under the compassionate care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born August 16, 1934, in Adrian, the son of Elmer and Beatrice (Huyck) Johnston. He married Donna Jane Carter on June 27, 1953, and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Lavon was employed in skilled trades, and he notably worked a tenure of 50 years in maintenance and ultimately as a supervisor for the former Tecumseh Products. In his spare time, you could find him on the golf course or enjoying physical fitness, specifically bicycling or walking. His favorite place to exercise was at Heritage Park, where he was proud of having his very own trail.
Surviving are three sons, Mark (Dawn) Johnston of Adrian, Randall (Tomee) Johnston of Onsted, and Scott (Tammy) Johnston of Grass Lake; a sister, Charlotte Covell of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, Josh (Sephanie) Johnston, Eric Johnston, Tara (Jon) Courtright, Tayler (Zach) Bellfy, Katrina (Johnston), Brandon Johnston, and Matt (Samantha) Johnston; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Lavon was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Arol Miller; and siblings, Carolyn, Bertha, Beverly, Vincent “Raymond”, Gerald, and Glenn.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until a funeral service begins at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
