HEIDI ELIZABETH BUMGARNER, 43, stepped into eternity on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, with family and loved ones by her side. She is now at peace after a 3-year long battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her devoted husband Craig Bumgarner, cherished son Nicholas (Kialeigh) Hartman, Mother Elizabeth Maertens and older sister Brianna Murray. She shared a deep bond and lifetime devotion with her twin sister, Tiffany Leigh Vance. They were born on February 6, 1981, in Ann Arbor Michigan. In 1997, Heidi gained a caring and supportive dad, Mike Maertens, a bonus older sister, Leslie (Maertens) Smith and brother Michael Maertens. She also gained a sister, Megan Bumgarner, and brother, Steven Bumgarner with her marriage to Craig on January 17, 2015.
Heidi fiercely loved her family. She was the first one to suggest a family event. A cookout with a bonfire was a favorite. Most holidays were celebrated at her home in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. She loved Christmas and was known for buying “just one more thing” for her loved ones; it gave her great joy. She was an animal lover from a young age, beginning with dogs and cats, later adding chickens and ducks.
Heidi lived her life in service to others. First, at Bixby Hospital for 19 years, where she spread cheer to everyone she met and made many lasting friends. Most recently she worked at the Cervical and Breast Cancer Project in Fulton County. There she encouraged, supported, and counseled women like herself. She loved her job and was heartbroken when she could no longer work. However, she continued to help others in any way possible while fighting her own battle.
Heidi’s faith was strong. She would say that she was not afraid of the future and was ready to go home any time God called her. At a young age, she placed her trust in Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She is with Him now and for eternity.
Visitation for Heidi will be held Saturday, July 20th, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:30 pm at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian, with a Celebration of Life at 4:30.
