Naomi Jean Dunbar, age 96, of White Bear Lake, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, in Vermont, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 2, 1928, in Sylvania, OH to Walter L. and Elizabeth C. (Morley) Nichols. On June 21, 1947, she married Robert John Dunbar in Hudson, MI. They celebrated over 76 wonderful years together before his passing on September 11, 2023.
Naomi graduated from Lyons High School in 1946. Naomi was a proud homemaker and an unconditionally loving and nurturing mother. She was fiercely loyal to her extended family of 6 siblings and her husband’s 5 siblings and the subsequent generations, with an extraordinary talent for remembering all their birthdays and anniversaries.
She was an active member of the Madison Schools Mom and Dad’s Club for 26 years, and the Madison Township Fire Department’s Firette Organization. She enjoyed gardening, canning, card playing, bowling, cooking, baking, extended family gatherings and camping vacations. In her last years she became an iPad addict, following family and friends (closely!) on Facebook, competing against many of them in Words with Friends, and most recently venturing into the video gaming world, transferring her bowling skills to the Wii video game.
Naomi is survived by her son Robert (Orly Munzing) of East Dummerston, VT, daughter Carol (James) Wilson of Maplewood, MN, and son Jeffrey (Jill) of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren Jason, Michael, Kaytie, Becky, Matthew, Megan, Brandon and Mitchell; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Naomi is preceded in death by her brothers: Warren Nichols, Glenn Nichols, Laurence Nichols, Gary Nichols, and Wilbur Nichols; sisters: Chloe Smallman and sister Carol Lynn in infancy.
