Paul Woodside of Adrian, formerly of Ypsilanti, MI died at home on Thursday, June 20, 2024, two days shy of his 97th birthday.
Paul was born on June 22, 1927, in Maston, PA, the youngest of Roland and Minnie (Meckes) Woodside’s six children. The family moved to Ypsilanti when Paul was a young boy, and he has called Michigan home ever since.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1946-1947, where he worked as a tank crewman. After Paul was discharged from the Army, he had more time to decide what he wanted to do in life. He found his special someone and on January 15, 1949, Paul married Geraldine Brink in their home city of Ypsilanti. They shared 67 years together before her death in 2016.
Paul worked as a firefighter for the city of Ypsilanti from 1955 to 1985 and saw many changes during his career in the way you approach a fire situation. After Paul retired from firefighting, he realized he wasn’t ready to slow down. Paul and his family decided to restore houses in the Ypsilanti area; and once word got out that Paul was good at painting, plumbing and hanging drywall his phone kept ringing. He was a Mason for over 50 years and was affiliated with Phoenix Lodge 13. Paul liked to relax out on the golf course with his friends.
He is survived by his children, Lori (James) Murray of Adrian, MI and Wayne (Pat) Woodside of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer Daniel, Sara (Jason) Kubek, Wyatt Woodside and Melissa Woodside; great-grandchildren, Jacob (Tabetha) Daniel and Nathan Daniel; and a great-great-granddaughter, Ellie Daniel. Paul was preceded in death by his siblings, Eleanor, Nelson, Robert, Cliff and Martha.
Following Paul’s wishes, cremation will take place with no services at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Elara Caring Hospice who provided wonderful care for Paul and his family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian, where online condolences may be shared at www.wagleyfuneralhome.com.
