Updated Story from Monday Morning:

Dover Twp., MI – A Newport man has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle versus car crash Sunday afternoon in Lenawee County.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office reports that the driver of the motorcycle, 54-year-old Joseph Lee Webb, has died from his injuries. The LCSO reported Sunday that a married couple from Newport sustained life-threatening injuries when their motorcycle crashed into a car in Dover township.

The crash occurred just before 4:30 pm at the intersection of West Carleton Road and Benner Highway.

Deputies say that the couple, Webb and his 50-year-old wife, were eastbound on Carleton Road near the Benner Highway intersection when a Toyota Corolla…driven by an 87-year-old female from the Clayton area…turned in front of them.

Deputies say that the driver of the motorcycle was unable to avoid the crash and struck the car. The passenger of the motorcycle sustained life threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said that both Newport residents were wearing appropriate helmets, and the driver of the car was wearing her seatbelt. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash…which is under investigation.

WLEN News will not release the name of the driver of the car unless they are charged in relation to this crash.
