Adrian, MI – Nearby residents of Adrian College showed up to the Adrian City Commission meeting to express their concerns and displeasure with the ongoing construction of the Dome Facility near the AC softball and baseball fields. Back in mid-March, Adrian College submitted a site plan for the Planning Commission to approve in relation to the project.
The plan to construct the inflatable dome was approved, because it met all requirements of the Planning Commission. The construction on campus is within the ‘ERO’ District. ERO stands for Education, Research, and Office District.
Residents adjacent to the dome have been at the last two City Commission meetings, and have asked for increased transparency in the process…both from the City and from the College. The minimum notification requirements are that the notice be published in the newspaper’s classified section, the agenda be posted at City Hall, and displayed online. The Planning Commission did those postings prior to the March meeting.
The Special Meeting in March within the City Chambers was also broadcast live on Zoom. The recording was never published, and residents near the construction area wanted to view it. It was said during Monday’s regular meeting by Adrian City Administrator Greg Elliott, that the person running the Zoom meeting did not know to hit the ‘record’ button for the meeting.
Elliott said that the person who normally operates the technology during meetings was not in attendance for the March special meeting. WLEN News asked Administrator Elliott if there is a possibility of doing more, in terms of getting the word out about projects like this…
How much more should be done to notify residents of projects like this?…
Adrian College has started moving dirt in the location of the future dome facility.
