Adrian, MI – The Lenawee Intermediate School District’s Board of Education is looking to fill a vacancy on their board following the passing of Treasurer David Pray last week.

According to the Revised School Code, MCL 380.614, “A vacancy shall be filled by the remaining members of the intermediate school board until the next biennial election at which time the vacancy shall be filled for the balance of the unexpired term.” Pray’s term was to expire on June 30, 2029. The Lenawee ISD Board of Education now has 30 days from April 18, 2024, to fill this vacancy and plans to appoint a new member to serve until June 30, 2025. The biennial election will determine who will serve the remainder of Mr. Pray’s term to June 30, 2029.

The Board is seeking a registered voter in the district to fill the vacancy. Based on Michigan law, the individual appointed to this vacant board seat cannot reside in the Adrian Public Schools district because the Board already has two APS residents. No more than two residents from any one district are allowed on the Board unless that restriction prevents all of the Lenawee ISD Board’s seats from being filled.

Qualified and interested candidates can send a letter of interest and a resume, including address and school district of residence, to Janine Decker in care of the Office of the Superintendent at the Lenawee Intermediate School District, William J. Ross Education Service Center, 4107 N. Adrian Highway, Adrian, MI 49221 or by email to Janine.Decker@lisd.us by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024.

A meeting of the Lenawee ISD Board of Education to appoint a trustee is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2024, at the William J. Ross Education Service Center.
