Ottawa Lake, MI – The Environmental Protection Agency and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy continue to provide updates on the Pilot Diesel Spill in Ottawa Lake.

The spill was detected earlier this Spring when the diesel gasoline was discovered in a nearby creek. The EPA and EGLE have been on site removing and cleaning up thousands of gallons of diesel and treated water on site.

The EPA says that over 1.2 millions of gallons of total liquids have been recovered from the clean up site. The contaminated waterway…North Tenmile Creek… is still being excavated and dredged.

Private drinking water well sampling continues with oversight from the Monroe County Health Department and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. They have sampled over 500 drinking water wells in the area.

All updates can be found on the EPA’s website.
