Adrian, MI – U.S. Census Bureau data shows that Lenawee County has lost the third largest number of residents, in terms of percentages, in the past three years amongst Michigan Counties.

Lenawee County lost 1.8 percent of their population, and is currently at 97,520. The largest decline, in terms of percentage, was Menominee County…Wayne County was second.

Over the same time period, the state has lost an estimated 33,366 residents. Despite the overall loss, two-thirds of counties actually gained population. Northern Michigan had the highest concentration of counties with population growth.

For 2023, the Census estimated Michigan was home to 10,037,261 people. That’s a decline of 0.3% since 2020. Geographically, the trends of loss and gain are evident. The east side of the state, specifically the Thumb and much of Southeast Michigan, lost population… and the west side and northern counties saw increases. The three-year trend is in contrast to the 2020 Census.
