Adrian, MI – Nearly 100 children in need this holiday season were able to “Shop With A Hero” at the Adrian Meijer store Tuesday night. Community partners offered financial support for the event, including the Adrian Police Department, Adrian Fire Department, Wacker Chemical, and Meijer customers.

91 kids were paired with local heroes to do Christmas shopping at the store with $100 Meijer gift cards. Over 157 people, ranging from Siena Heights and Adrian College student-athletes to Adrian Police and Firefighters volunteered.

Adrian Meijer Store Director Ben Negron talked with WLEN News about hosting this community event…

Negron said that, many times in the past, the children would use the gift cards to buy things for others…

So how did the children get selected for “Shop With A Hero”? Negron says that it is through the Lenawee Intermediate School District…

Negron told WLEN News that the Adrian Meijer has participated in “Shop With A Hero” every year (minus a year due to COVID-19) since he has been the Store Director (2004). The 2023 event was one of the largest in decades.
