Dundee, MI – A man posing as a member of the Dundee Police Department lied to an elderly Monroe County resident on the phone…saying that he grandson was involved in a fatal traffic crash, and needed bail money.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said that the subject identified himself as ‘James Marcus’ with the Dundee Police Department. The subject told the victim her grandson was involved in a fatal traffic crash, had been arrested and needed bail money.

Confused by the situation, the victim went to the bank and withdrew money to bail her grandson out of jail.

A suspect later arrived at the victim’s residence and collected the ‘bail money.’ The victim’s Ring doorbell camera captured video and photos of the suspect. The victim later contacted her grandson after the transaction and discovered that he was never involved in a traffic crash.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office published a photo of the suspect, and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.
