Whiteford, Twp., MI – A driver from Riga was involved in a fatal car versus motorcycle crash early Thursday morning in Monroe County.
Sheriff Troy Goodnough reports that the crash occurred at the intersection of Clark Road and Yankee Road in Whiteford Township at about 5:18AM.
41-year-old Jason Simbeck, from Ottawa Lake, was operating a motorcycle eastbound on Yankee Road. Goodnough says that he disregarded the posted stop sign, and collided with a pick-up truck operated by a 32-year-old Riga man.
Simbeck was pronounced deceased on scene from injuries suffered in the crash. He was not wearing a helmet. The Riga man was wearing his seat belt, and was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division.
