Adrian, MI – The City of Adrian has brought Crimson Holdings LLC to court over the egg-smell that is being emitted from their facility on the 1300 block of East Maumee Street.

Crimson Holdings is a powdered egg facility that processes raw eggs into a powder…and then sells it to pet food companies. The Iowa-based company was charged with a property code violation.

There was a formal hearing in Lenawee County District Court, in the courtroom of Laura J. Schaedler, Tuesday afternoon.

Essentially, the question is about what type of regulations should be in place for the facility in terms of odor remediation…and if what the company has done so far is sufficient. If the facility is viewed, by statute or by law, as a farming operation, the rules are different than if it is not deemed a farming operation.

Testimony was given by an Adrian City employee, a representative from Michigan EGLE, east side residents, the plant operator, and an advisor for Crimson Holdings.

The court adjourned after 3 hours into the trial, with no decision levied by Judge Schaedler. Closing arguments are scheduled for this afternoon (Wednesday) at 3pm in Lenawee County District Court in Adrian.
