Adrian, MI – The Adrian man found guilty, but mentally ill, in the fatal stabbing of an 85 year old man at the Adrian Meijer in September of 2020 has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Alarik Guajardo was arrested in September of 2020 after Glen Meyers was killed in the store.

With Guajardo found guilty, but mentally ill, he had three counts dismissed (Open Murder, Weapons-carrying concealed, and Weapons-dangerous weapons-carrying with unlawful intent).

He pleaded guilty in May of this year to a fourth count: Murder-2nd degree.

Records show that a woman with a concealed pistol license witnessed the stabbing taking place. She drew her pistol on Guajardo and ordered him to the ground and held him at gunpoint until police arrived to make the arrest.

He was sentenced in the courtroom of Lenawee County Circuit Court Judge Anna Marie Anzalone.
