Morenci Area Schools Implementing Energy-Saving Infrastructure Upgrades

Morenci, MI – Morenci Area Schools will be implementing energy-saving infrastructure upgrades as part of a major restructuring of their student learning environment.

In a release to the media by the school district, Trane…by Trane Technologies… a global climate innovator, has collaborated with the district to develop and implement each of the energy savings measures.

Morenci Area Schools are undertaking a major restructuring of its buildings. The completed upgrades will help to create a more comfortable academic environment, reduce rising energy and operational costs, replace outdated systems and address deferred maintenance.

District-wide improvements will include lighting controls, LED lighting upgrades, new building automation controls, and an energy management system enabling district heating and cooling upgrades for the district.

The improvements are funded by a State of Michigan energy bond, in addition to General Funds and Federal ESSER Funds. The project is expected to save more than 1.4 million in energy and operational costs over 10 years. The upgrades, which have started, are scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
