Adrian, MI – About 30 people gathered outside of the Lenawee County Human Services Building at 4pm Wednesday afternoon…the same time that the Health Board was supposed to meet.
The Board of Health issued a press release saying that the group canceled the meeting because of the: “high risk of COVID-19 transmission in Lenawee County, the large number of individuals in attendance at recent meetings, and the lack of prevention measures exercised at these meetings.”
The rally, organized by Stand Up Lenawee County, took place… in part… to highlight that no public meetings have been held since early fall to allow the community to address how the county has been managing healthy student close contact quarantines.
As of right now, the individual schools have been working with the Health Department on quarantine guidelines.
President of Stand Up Lenawee County, Bethany Teague, spoke at the rally. She questioned why others are meeting in large groups, but the Health Board cannot. Teague cited grocery stores and sporting events as examples.
Some people who attended the rally left pairs of shoes with a note attached, saying “We WILL NOT Comply!” A release sent to members of the media said that: “Stand Up Lenawee County is standing up for the healthy children/students of Lenawee County who are being tested and quarantined without symptoms.”
The Lenawee County Board of Health, in their notice of cancellation, said that: “…bringing together a large group of people at this time would be contrary to the mission of the Lenawee County Health Department to promote a safe and healthy environment.”
