Monroe, MI – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office investigated a recent threat of gun violence against a school planned for today.

Triumph Academy School contacted the office about the threats Sunday morning. The MCSO reports that the threat was disseminated via a group text message chat session involving students at the school. School officials were alerted to the threat by a parent of one of the students.

Sheriff deputies discovered the threat was made by a 13-year-old boy from Lynchburg, Virginia. The boy previously befriended some of the Triumph Academy School students through online gaming interaction. Contact was made with the mother of the boy who confirmed he was currently in Lynchburg. Authorities there were also contacted to assist with the investigation.

At this time, the Sheriff’s Office does not believe the boy possesses the ability to carry out the threat.

Deputies will continue to work closely with officials from Triumph Academy, as well as authorities from the Lynchburg Police Department.
