
Clinton, MI – An investigation into the finances of the Clinton Community Band Boosters revealed significant irregularities.
A news release by the Clinton Police Department said that on July 27th, 2021, they were contacted by the current board members of the Band Boosters about potential financial irregularities after review by a forensic accountant. A joint investigation was conducted by the Clinton Police Department and C.P.A. Karl Haiser of Michigan Forensic Accounting Inc. of Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Police said the investigation concluded that over a seven-year period it appeared that $100,000 in funds had potentially been embezzled.
On September 7, 2021, the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office issued the following charges against Mrs. Nanette Stewart, who was the Band Booster Treasurer from 2013 to 2021: Embezzlement over $100,000, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and Uttering and Publishing, a felony punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
The Clinton Police said that Mrs. Stewart turned herself into the CPD and was arranged before the presiding Judge at the Second District Court in Adrian on September 9th. Further court hearings are pending at this time; therefore, no further information is available.
