Adrian, MI – An SUV drove off of the bridge at the entrance to Island Park in Adrian Friday night. Adrian Police Department Sergeant Eric Adams told WLEN News on the scene that at about 5:25pm emergency responders were called to the scene of the single vehicle crash.
Sergeant Adams said that bystanders were able to get the three occupants, a mother and two young children, out of the SUV.
Sergeant Adams was unable to determine the rate of speed the Escalade was going when it crashed through the guardrail and into the water, but did interview several witnesses.
The driver of the vehicle was lodged at the Lenawee County Jail Friday night. Police did not disclose the name of the driver, or the potential charges, to WLEN News at the scene.
The Adrian Police Department was assisted at the scene by Adrian Fire and Ambulance, Affordable Towing, Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department, and the City of Adrian Parks and Forestry Department.
Initially the Lenawee County Hazardous Materials Response Team was activated. It was determined that the oil spill was not significant enough to have them on the scene.
If you have any information about the crash, you are asked to contact the Adrian Police Department.
