Tecumseh, MI – Several Lenawee County Fire Departments battled smoke, heat, and fire at the Dollar General on North Evans Street in Tecumseh Monday afternoon.

Tecumseh Fire Chief Joe Tuckey told WLEN News that they were called to the scene around 12:35pm, and the fire was possibly started in the paper products section of the store.

Chief Tuckey said that when they arrived on scene, they could see some smoke coming from the rear of the building and some out of the front door, but as soon as they opened the door, black smoke billowed out of the store.

To ventilate the building, firefighters broke several windows, opened doors, and cut holes in the ceiling. Chief Tuckey said that there likely was no fire suppression system, because it probably was not required due to the size of the Dollar General.

No injuries were reported to WLEN News. The fire department was not sure of the extent of fire damage done to the building, but there was substantial damage to products.

The initial call brought in the Tecumseh City, Raisin Township, and Clinton Village Fire Departments. The second call was for Adrian City, Adrian Township, and Ridgeway Township. The Tecumseh Police Department provided traffic control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
