Adrian, MI – Siena Heights University President Sister Peg Albert O.P. and SHU’s Executive Council of the Administration – in close consultation with local government and public health officials – have been working through various scenarios to reopen the Siena Heights Adrian campus and its various centers across the State of Michigan to resume full operations for the Fall 2020 session.
It is SHU’s intention and hope to safely resume in-person teaching, learning, athletic and residential life for the fall 2020 semester. These plans, of course, are highly dependent on the continued decline in the number of COVID-19 cases within Lenawee County and throughout southern Michigan, as well as guidance from federal, state and local governments and public health officials.
The University will also be working with each of their community college partners to coordinate their activities as they each determine their operational protocols, as well as with the NAIA to determine fall athletic engagement.
It is important to note, however, that SHU is not planning for a “normal start” of the fall semester, given the lack of a treatment protocol or vaccine for COVID-19. The health and safety of students, faculty, staff and guests must lead decision-making regarding all activities. They are preparing to adapt our instructional and residential life models and on-campus activities, as needed, to protect the campus community while continuing to offer the distinct on-campus college experience for which Siena Heights University is known.
Siena Heights University intends to mitigate these threats in every reasonable way possible. In the weeks and months ahead, and they will work diligently to refine our preparations to create a safe, productive educational environment for all.
With that goal in mind, Siena Heights has developed faculty and staff task forces to prepare the University for fall 2020. They will keep the community informed as planning progresses, as well of any changes in their intentions for the fall session.
Siena Heights University remains uniquely prepared to adapt to all situations that may present itself as a result of any COVID-19 scenario. They have the top-ranked online bachelor’s degree program in Michigan and one of the best online faculty preparation programs in the country, according to the U.S. News and World Report. Siena Heights University stands ready to support not only its continuing education students, but also its Adrian campus students.
