Adrian Public Schools Superintendent Bob Behnke released a statement Thursday:
“Dear APS Community,
In light of the COVID-19 virus, APS and the other school districts around the county have established common guidelines for our schools. Here at APS we have decided to enact the following procedural changes. We ask that all parents be flexible as we work to accommodate the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.
Student Attendance Incentives
During the official Michigan State of Emergency, all building level student attendance incentives will be suspended.
K-5 Lunches
If current lunch schedules have more than 100 students in the lunchroom at the same time, adjustments should be made by the Principal to change the lunch schedules so there are less than 100 per lunch.
Springbrook and Adrian High School Lunches
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, middle school and high school lunches will be eaten in classrooms or locations where less than 100 students are seated. Teachers will take their students to the lunchroom with their classes alphabetically, with three-minute staggers in between teachers. Each class will go to the lunchroom and students will go through the line, get their food, and the class as a whole will return to the classroom to eat lunch.
Building Activities
Any building activities (for example, Pep Assemblies, PBIS Incentives, etc) that would involve more than 100 students in the same location at the same time will be canceled or delayed/rescheduled. In some instances the audience or spectators for games or performances will be limited to parents or groups of less than 100.
K-5 Parent Teacher Conferences, March 18 – 19, 2020
Parent-teacher conferences will be held via phone conferences at scheduled times with parents. A communication will be sent by the Principal to all parents notifying them of this change. The communication will also ask parents to ensure that the school district has the correct phone number for the parent. The teacher will then call the parent at their scheduled conference time. Efforts should be made to send home report cards the day before conferences so that the parents can have it in front of them for the phone conference.
Go MAPLES!!!
