Last week, State Representative Bronna Kahle hosted over 30 community members for an educational panel discussion on vaping and our youth. Joining her were special guests Sydney Papenhagen, Miss River Raisin Festival 2019; Superintendent Mark Haag, Lenawee ISD; Sherriff Troy Bevier, Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office; Martha Hall, Lenawee County Health Department; and Jackie Bradley, Lenawee County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.
“Vaping is becoming increasingly popular among all age groups, but what is most concerning is how many teens and tweens are participating,” Rep. Kahle said. “This alarming trend is not safe for our youth and, by working together, this is something we can reverse. It was encouraging to have so many community partners join me for our discussion, recognizing that this effort is going to take collaboration and cooperation, and I look forward to continuing our work as a community to eradicate this dangerous epidemic.”
After being crowned Miss River Raisin 2019, Sydney Papenhagen has embraced her platform and partnered with a national organization whose goal is to spread the word on the dangers of vaping and smoking. She travels the country with a team attending music festivals and other gatherings popular among youth and young adults to raise awareness of the dangers of vaping, and to spread the message that it’s cooler not to vape.
