Addison Fire & EMS was dispatched at 2:50am Friday morning to 2189 Marsh Dr. Manitou Beach for a report of a house fire. The single report of the fire came from a neighbor about 3 doors down who could see flames that appeared to be coming from the house. The first arriving Engine crew reported visible flames coming from the northwest part of the house through the roof. The crew checked for occupants in the house and discovered there were three adults inside sleeping. The crew was able to wake them and get them out of the house uninjured. A family dog was also successfully removed by fire crews. There was no smoke alarm inside the residence to alert the sleeping residents of the fire. The inside of the home was filling with smoke. After getting everyone out, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire keeping it mainly contained to the area of origin although it did breach into the attic.
The American Red Cross was contacted for the occupants and will provide services from them. This home was a rental and the residents did not have rental insurance for their contents. Damage to the structure is estimated at $5,000.00 and contents lost to smoke damage about $10,000.00.
Firefighters cleared at 5:06am. Addison Fire & EMS was assisted by Somerset Twp Fire Department at the scene. Michigan State Fire Marshall was called to investigate and confirmed this to be an intentionally set fire. Anyone with information or seeing suspicious persons or vehicles in the neighborhood should call the arson hotline number at 800-442-7766.
