The initiative is call Project Plie, which was launched by the American Ballet Theatre in 2013. It gives children the opportunity to take classical ballet classes that have little or no access to them. The American Ballet Theatre, (ABT), has spread its influence to Adrian at the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee and Encore Dance Studio. A mission of the partnership is to break down racial and ethnic barriers to classical ballet, and help to identify promising students of color who would benefit from receiving scholarships for formal ballet training at their local dance studios.
Interim Executive Director of the club, Sarah Herriman, talks about the special relationship between all of the organizations that are a part of the initiative…
Ashley Palmer, Encore Dance Studio Director, tells WLEN News about how involved the students are, and want to be in the future…
WLEN News went to the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee and had the opportunity to talk to two of the dancers while they were on a break. Makena Arnold, a 9-year-old member of the Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee, had nothing but nice things to say about the teachers…
Trinity Henley, a 12-year-old Boys and Girls Club of Lenawee, talked about what she learned in the class…
This is a rather new partnership, and the two groups are in talks as to how to continue the program, and possibly grow it.
