On Sunday afternoon at around 1pm, troopers from the MSP Monroe Post were dispatched to a two vehicle accident on US-223 near Riga Hwy. A 2012 Buick was traveling east on US-223 when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a 2007 Saturn that was traveling westbound, head-on. Both drivers were transported to Promedica Toledo Hospital by ambulance for injuries suffered in the crash. 47 year-old, Wendy Cook from Plymouth, Michigan, died at Promedica Hospital in Toledo from her injuries. Ms. Cook was the driver of the 2007 Saturn. The driver of 2012 Buick, a 64 year old woman from Temperance, Michigan, is in stable condition. The Michigan State Police were assisted by the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office, Blissfield Police Department, Riga Fire Department, Blissfield Fire Department, and the Madison Fire Department. At this time, it appears that driver fatigue was a contributing factor to the crash.
