ADRIAN — Lenawee County officials say Michigan is continuing work toward a statewide behavioral health emergency response system connected to the 988 crisis hotline.

During the May 13th, Lenawee County Board of Commissioners meeting, officials said the initiative is designed to operate alongside the traditional 911 system.

Officials say the program would allow behavioral health responders to respond directly to mental health crises instead of traditional emergency services in some situations.

Elliott said major implementation efforts are beginning in Ingham County as Michigan continues expanding the program statewide.
