ADRIAN — Lenawee County commissioners are moving forward with officially dissolving the Lenawee County Building Authority after nearly 40 years in operation.
County officials say the authority is no longer needed because state law now allows counties to directly handle bonding and property ownership functions that once required a separate entity. Officials also noted there are no active bonds remaining under the authority.
Earlier this year, several county-owned properties, including the sheriff’s office and jail, Human Services Building, and Medical Care Facility, were transferred back to Lenawee County ownership for one dollar each.
The Building Authority was originally created in 1987 and renamed in 2003.
