LANSING — A State Representative voted for a plan supporters say would lower electric bills and improve energy reliability for Michigan families.
State Representative Kathy Schmaltz voted Tuesday for a Republican-backed energy plan supporters say would lower electric bills and improve reliability for Michigan families struggling with rising utility costs.
Schmaltz said residents across the region have voiced concerns about higher monthly bills and power outages during severe weather.
House Bills 5710 and 5711 would roll back some state energy mandates, require the Michigan Public Service Commission to prioritize affordability and reliability, and increase transparency around utility rate hikes.
The legislation would also ban utility payments from funding outside advocacy groups. The bills passed the Michigan House Tuesday and now move to the Senate for consideration.
