ADRIAN — Lenawee County jail officials say new federal caps on inmate phone call pricing are expected to reduce county revenue tied to jail communications services.
At a meeting of the Criminal Justice Committee last week, a proposed contract extension with ViaPath Technologies was under review.
The company handles inmate video visits, jail tablets, and phone calls; however, the Federal Communications Commission recently implemented lower rate caps for these communication services.
A jail official told commissioners the county will likely still see revenue losses even after renegotiating the agreement. The updated proposal would increase county commissions on inmate tablet content and include a $20,000 signing bonus.
